5.26.2010 | Men's Lacrosse
Gaffney, SC -- In a week full of accolades, Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, Md.) was selected today, by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), as a Scholar All-American. The senior midfielder was one seventy student-athletes honored throughout all of Division I, II, and III.

Gaffney, S.C. — Limestone College senior men’s lacrosse standout Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis HS) has been selected to play in the 2010 Lax World/USILA North/South Division I/II Classic this coming Friday evening, May 28th at 5:30 p.m. at Goucher College’s Beldon Field in Towson, Maryland.

Gaffney, S.C. — Limestone College senior men’s lacrosse players Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis HS) and Jake Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool HS) have earned USILA Division II All-America honors for their respective efforts in leading Limestone to the NCAA Division II Tournament for an 11th consecutive season in 2010.

Syracuse, N.Y. — Fifth-ranked Limestone scored the first two and last two goals on Saturday of its NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championships semifinal showdown at No.3 Le Moyne, but the home standing Dolphins outscored the Saints 7-3 in the second and third quarters combined and got eight fourth saves in the crease in route to an 11-7 win. Limestone finishes 12-2 with both losses to now 15-1 Le Moyne, which will take on C.W. Post in the national title game on Sunday, May 30th at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD.

Gaffney, S.C. — The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team, for the second time in the last three national ratings, has company at the No.4-ranking in the latest USILA Division II Poll released on Monday, May 3rd. The Saints, who closed out their regular season this past Saturday night with a 16-7 non-conference decision at rival and regionally fifth-ranked Catawba running their win streak to 10 games, received 62 points in the latest balloting and are joined by Mercyhurst at the No.4 spot. The Lakers fell two spots following their 11-9 loss to then No.5 C.W. Post on Saturday.

GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone College is accepting nominations for the Athletics Hall of Fame from alumni and friends of Saints athletics. The Limestone College Athletic Hall of Fame honors individuals whose athletic achievements or services have enriched the Saints athletic programs or brought fame to the College. It recognizes and provides an enduring memorial for those persons who have made lasting and significant contributions to the cause of sports at Limestone College.

Gaffney, S.C. — The fourth-ranked Limestone men’s lacrosse team outscored home standing Catawba 8-1 in the second half on the way to a 16-7 victory in a non-conference yet key NCAA Division II South Region showdown to close out the regular season on Saturday night in Salisbury, North Carolina. The Saints extended their win streak to 10 games and are now 12-0 in the region, 12-1 overall while Catawba closed out its season 9-8.

Gaffney, S.C. — Limestone freshman attack Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia/Burnaby Mountain Secondary) has been named the NIKE/INSIDE Lacrosse Division II Player of the Week for his efforts this past weekend in leading the fourth-ranked Saints to not only a second consecutive Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Tournament title but to remain perfect on the season in the South Region of NCAA Division II.

Gaffney, S.C. — The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team stays at the No.4-ranking in the latest USILA Division II Poll released on Monday, April 26th. The Saints went 2-0 last week with both wins coming at the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Saints, after opening with a 10-4 semifinal win over Pfeiffer on Friday, went on to post a dramatic 10-9 win over rival Belmont Abbey in Sunday’s title game. The Saints, who have won nine straight, received 52 points in the latest balloting of coaches, one more than fifth-ranked C.W. Post.

Charlotte, N.C — Limestone goalie Steve Gartelman stopped a Belmont Abbey shot with only seconds left in regulation as the nationally fourth-ranked and top-seeded Saints defeated the third-seeded Crusaders 10-9 in the championship game of the 2010 Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C. Limestone has now won its conference tournament championship for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons.

Charlotte, N.C — Fourth-ranked Limestone outscored Pfeiffer 6-1 in the opening quarter to propel the top-seeded Saints to a 10-4 win over the fourth-seeded Falcons on Friday in the semifinals of the 2010 Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. Limestone, which has won eight straight games, will play Belmont Abbey in Sunday’s 4:00 p.m., title game.  The Crusaders defeated tournament host and second-seed Queens University of Charlotte 11-10 in Friday's second semifinal.
