MARS HILL, N.C.-- Mars Hill College edged Limestone 69-67 on Monday night in men’s basketball action. Limestone falls to 2-4 overall with tonight’s non-conference loss. The Lions climb to 6-1 on the season.
 
Stewart Clark (Atlanta, Ga.) paced the Saints with 18 points and 8 assists. Michael Barrett (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored 17 points and recorded 6 rebounds. Tyron Evans (Leesburg, Fla.) posted 16 points while Bobby Grier (Powder Springs, Ga.) had a team-high 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
 
Limestone opened the game with a 12-0 run in the first two minutes and held the advantage for most the first period. The Saints led 39-25 at the half, but the Lions started to make a comeback in the second period when Mars Hill went on a 10-point run to cut the Saints' lead to 1 (42-41).
 
Limestone increased its lead to 8 points (51-43) with 13:10 left in the second half, but the Lions kept chipping away until they tied the game with roughly 8 minutes left in the game and then took the lead on the next play. The Saints continued to play hard and tied the game 67-67 with 31 seconds left on the clock, but a layup by Jamari Glen at the 3-second mark sealed the win for the Lions.
 
The Saints had their best shooting performance so far this season, sinking 26 of their 46 field goal attempts (56.5%)  and 8 of their 15 3-point shots. The team also nailed 7 of its 9 free-throw attempts (77.8%).
 
Mars Hill was only 24-64 (37.5%) from the field and made 16-27 free-throw attempts (59.3%). 
 
Each team had 35 rebounds. The Lions had 45 points from 33 Limestone turnovers, while the Saints only had 14 points from 17 MHC turnovers.

Limestone travels to High Point, N.C., to face High Point University (NCAA Division I) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
