SAINTS SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH ERSKINE

DUE WEST, S.C.— The Limestone College softball team’s 16-game win streak was snapped as the Saints were edged 7-6 in game one of their doubleheader against Erskine College on Friday afternoon. However, Limestone recovered for a convincing 5-0 win in game two. The Saints stand at 27-24 overall and 12-4 in Conference Carolinas play, while the Fleet improve to 19-17 overall and 6-6 in the league.
Game 1 (EC 7, LC 6)
In game one, Limestone took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jordan Smith (Goose Creek, S.C.) scored on a single by Hannah Mills (Richmond, Va.). The Fleet tied the game in the fourth when Katee Knapp doubled to right field and scored on a single by Lindsey LaPrad. Erskine would score five runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Hailey Whitlock, who would go on to score on a double by Kelly Davis. Next, Knapp blasted a three-run home run to put the Fleet up 6-1.
The Saints would rally in the top of the seventh to tie the game 6-6 on RBIs from Smith, Mills, Mallory Kuykendall, and Ashley Dorr. The Saints retired the first two Erskine hitters in the bottom of the seventh before Kayla Vinson doubled and then scored on a single by LaPrad to win the game.
Knapp led the Fleet at the plate going 2-3 with a double, home run, and 3 RBIs while LaPrad was 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Leigh Anne Shelley picked up the win and recorded the final out in the seventh inning.
Mills was 3-4 with 2 RBIs to lead the Saints, while Kuykendall was 2-2 with an RBI and run scored.
Kristy Witten (Sykesville, Md.) took the loss allowing one run on two hits in the final 2/3 of the final inning. Emily Wallace (Winchester, Ky.) pitched the first 4 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on five hits. Madison Carpenter (Anderson, S.C.) threw the next 1 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on two hits.
Game 2 (LC 5, EC 0)
In game two, the Saints scored five runs in the third inning. Limestone got on the board on a RBI single from Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.), and then Kelsey Kuykendall (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) drove in two runners with a two-out double. Dorr also added an RBI single.
Woolgar was 2-3 with an RBI to lead the Saints, while Kuykendall finished the game 1-3 with a double and an RBI.
Witten picked up the win to improve to 13-9 on the season. She pitched six shutout innings and allowed just five hits. Witten struck out five batters.
LaPrad led the Fleet going 2-3 with a double, while Kelly Davis was 1-1. Rebekah George took the loss after she allowed four runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings of work.
