BASEBALL ELIMINATED FROM CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
WILSON, N.C.—The Limestone College baseball team was eliminated from the Conference Carolinas tournament with an 11-6 loss to Mount Olive College on Friday afternoon at Nixon Field. The Saints stand at 25-21 overall with the loss as the Trojans climb to 28-17.
 
Limestone dropped its first game of the double elimination tournament to Barton College on Thursday, 5-3.
 
Mount Olive took a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in the first and fourth innings. The Saints tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with two runs, but the Trojans answered with three runs in the top of the fifth. Limestone gained a 6-5 lead as it recorded four more runs in the fifth, but the Saints wouldn’t score for the rest of the game. Mount Olive had four runs in the eighth and added two more in the ninth inning for the win.
 
Jordan Robinson (Shelby, N.C.) started the game for the Saints and pitched the first five innings. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits as he walked one batter. Brock White (Gaffney, S.C.) got the loss to fall to 3-4 on the season. He gave up three runs on four hits as he posted one strikeout. Michael McAbee (Boiling Springs, S.C.), Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.), and Brian Dearstine (College Park, Md.) each pitched 1/3 of an inning for Limestone. McAbee gave up a run on two hits, while Matheney gave up two runs on two hits. Dearstine allowed one hit and struck out one. Marques Kyles (Spartanburg, S.C.) pitched the final 2/3 inning, allowed no hits, struck out two, and walked one.
 
B. J. Dail pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for Mount Olive. He gave up 10 hits and 6 runs (5 earned). Dail struck out two and walked one. Kyle Jones got the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. He scattered two hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. He had five strikeouts and two walks.
 
Joe Maloney (Aston, Pa.) led the Saints as he batted 3-4 with 3 RBIs and a double. Tim Welsh (Kalamazoo, Mich.) was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Aldo Mendez (Cidra, Puerto Rico) hit 2-4 with a run scored and a double. David Christy (Greenville, S.C.) hit 2-5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
 
The Saints will wrap up their season on April 21 when they travel to Wingate, N.C., to face Wingate University at 7 p.m.
