LADY SAINTS EDGED BY COKER IN CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
SAINTS FACE ST. ANDREWS TOMORROW
HARTSVILLE, S.C.— The Limestone College softball team was edged by Coker, 3-2, in extra innings on Friday afternoon at the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The #1-seeded Saints (27-25 overall) will play #6 St. Andrews in the consolation bracket tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Coker (18-17), the #8 seed, will play the winner of the #4 Queens/#5 Erskine game on Saturday at 2 p.m. The tournament, hosted by Coker College, is being held at Byerly Park.
 
Coker scored two runs in the second inning to take the 2-0 lead as Whitney Wallett hit homerun that also scored Shannon Mitchell.
 
The Saints evened the score in the third inning. Jenna Guse (Pearland, Texas) hit a two-out single to get on base. In the next at bat, Felicia Fritz (Muncie, Ind.) reached first on an error by the Cobras’ second baseman as Guse advanced to second. Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) followed up with her 18th double of the season to bring Guse and Fritz home.
 
Guse batted 3-4 for the day while Woolgar was 2-4.
 
Kristy Witten (Sykesville, Md./13-9) picked up the loss as she pitched the first 8 2/3 innings and gave up 3 earned runs. Madison Carpenter (Anderson, S.C.) pitched the final 1/3 inning for Limestone.
 
The game went into extra innings. Coker scored a run in the ninth. Allie Bragg singled to score Brittany Owens, who had doubled earlier in the inning.
