Clemmons, N.C.-- The Belmont Abbey men (289) and the Pfeiffer women (319) lead after the opening round of the 2009 Conference Carolinas Championships, hosted by Belmont Abbey at the Tanglewood Park Championship Course.
The Limestone men’s team is within striking distance of the Crusaders with a first round score of 305, good enough for sixth place out of 11 teams.
Kyle Scruggs (Chesnee, S.C.) carded a two-over-par 72, tying the sophomore for fourth place over all.
Luke McClellan (West Columbia, S.C.) shot a five-over-par 75 and
Drew Sloan (Inman, S.C.) turned in a 78.
The women’s team finds itself in seventh place with an opening round score of 419.
Ansley Smith (Blythewood, S.C.) and
Miranda Van Arsdale (Hendersonville, S.C.) each find themselves in the top 20 players. Smith opened with 86 strokes to tie for 18th, while Van Arsdale shot an 88 for 20th place.
