Clemmons, N.C.--Kyle Scruggs (Chesnee, S.C.) carded an even par 70 at the 2009 Conference Carolinas championship, hosted by Belmont Abbey College at the Tanglewood Park Championship course in Clemmons, North Carolina. The sophomore recorded 216 strokes over 54 holes, earning first place overall with a 6-over-par. The men's team finished with 899 strokes over three days, capturing 4th place out of 11 teams. The women's team completed day three with a 418 for a three day total 1255.
Barton College (587) entered day three leading Belmont Abbey by four strokes and had a six stroke lead on Coker College. Limestone College (600), Anderson (603) were fourth and fifth, while Pfeiffer and Mount Olive tied for sixth at 604. Despite weather delays and soggy conditions, Barton held onto its lead shooting a 298, carding an 885 total. Coker shot the low round on Tuesday, moving past Belmont Abbey with a third round 294 and an 887 total. Belmont Abbey finished in third (890), with Limestone (899) and Queens (N.C.) (903) rounding out the top five.
Brad Williams (Elgin, S.C.) shot a day three 76 (227) and Luke McClellan (West Columbia) carded a 75 (227), tying the two teammates for 19th place. Kyle Parker (Gaffney, S.C.) shot an 8-over-par 78 (232) to finish tied for 28th. Drew Sloan (Inman, S.C.) finished tied for 39th, shooting a 82 (236).
In the women's tournament, Pfeiffer University never relinquished its lead, winning the tournament with a three day total of 958. Belmont Abbey College (967) and Queens University (N.C.) (973) complete the top 3.
The Limestone women's team finished in 7th place (1255), but Ansley Smith (Blythewood, S.C.) shot a three day 262 to tie for 22nd place. Miranda Van Arsdale (Hendersonville, N.C.) carded a 270 for 27th place. Mallary Long (Rock Hill, S.C.) (340) and Rachael Hageman (Rock Hill, S.C.) (383) finished 34th and 37th, respectively.
Limestone men's golf completes its season with 5 top 5 finishes through the 2008-09 season. Luke McClellan was named Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year and earned second team All-Conference. The women's team also completes its 2008-09 season. Sophomore Ansley Smith earned third team All-Conference.
