GAFFNEY, S.C.— The Saints softball team extended its win streak to 16 games with two wins over Conference Carolinas-rival Anderson University on Thursday afternoon at Lady Saints Field. Limestone climbs to 26-23 overall (11-3 league) as the Trojans stand at 17-24 overall (3-11 league). The Saints won the first game 6-1 and won game two 3-0.
Game 1 (LC 6, AU 1)
The first three innings of game one were a pitcher’s duel, but Limestone’s bats came alive in the fourth inning. The frame started quietly until Kelsey Kuykendall (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) hit a single. Then, Jordan Goodman (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) reached second on an Erskine error. Kelsey Kuykendall advanced to third on the play. Jordan Smith (Goose Creek, S.C.) knocked in the first run of the game as she grounded out to third base to score Kelsey Kuykendall. Goodman, who got to third on Smith’s hit, came home on Ashley Dorr's (Chesapeake, Md.) single.
Limestone added to its lead in the fifth inning by scoring four more runs. Anderson’s lone run came in the sixth inning on a homerun by Kinsley Durham (Pendleton, S.C.)
The Saints’ Emily Wallace (Winchester, S.C.) got the win after she pitched five innings. She allowed one run on three hits. Wallace walked one and struck out one batter as her record climbed to 7-12. Lauren Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio) closed out the game for Limestone. She allowed two hits.
Case Deer (Ulmer, S.C.) received the loss for the Trojans. She gave up six runs (three earned) on six hits and walked two. Amber Duncan (Matthews, N.C.) allowed no hits in one inning pitched.
Limestone’s Christina Woolgar (Orangevale, Calif.) batted 1-3 with 2 RBIs, a double, and one run scored. Jenna Guse (Pearland, Texas) had a stolen base.
Game 2 (LC 3, AU 0)
The Saints scored all three of their runs in game two in the first inning. Guse led off with a single, and advanced to second base after Felicia Fritz (Muncie, Ind.) drew a walk. Woolgar followed up with a single to bring Guse home. Next, Kelsey Kuykendall hit a sacrifice fly to advance Fritz to third. Goodman singled to score Fritz. Woolgar, who stole second and got to third on Goodman’s single, came home on a sacrifice fly by Smith.
Woolgar led the Saints’ offense as she batted 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Anderson’s Kayla Williams (Anderson, S.C.) hit 2-3.
Kristy Witten (Sykesville, Md.) improved to 12-8 overall as she picked up the win. She only allowed one hit in four innings of work and posted four strikeouts. Madison Carpenter (Anderson, S.C.) pitched two innings, gave up four hits, and struck out two batters. Robertson closed out the game as she allowed one hit in one inning and struck out one.
Limestone travels to Due West, S.C., tomorrow to face conference-rival Erskine College at 1 p.m. Anderson plays Pfeiffer tomorrow in Misenheimer, N.C., at 2 p.m.
