Five Limestone College women’s lacrosse players were named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-South Region team, as released on Thursday. Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.), Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.), and Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) garnered First-Team honors. Erin Growney (Rochester, N.Y.) and Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) represented the Lady Saints on the Second Team.
Howard was named First-Team All-Conference Carolinas and is a WomensLacrosse.com First-Team All-American. She started in every game for Limestone this season. She scored 38 goals and dished out 27 assists for 65 points. She picked up 20 ground balls, won 31 draw controls, and caused 12 turnovers.
Lickert, who garnered Second-Team All-Conference Carolinas and WomensLacrosse.com Second-Team All-American honors, led Limestone with 34 assists this season. She scored 31 goals for 65 points, and also picked up 17 ground balls. She started in every contest for the Lady Saints this season.
Wise, also a WomensLacrosse.com First-Team All-American, started in every game this season. She was named the conference’s Player of the Year and was named conference Player of the Week and to the WomensLacrosse.com Weekly Honor Roll. She led Limestone with 73 points, 64 goals, 33 ground balls, and 60 draw controls. She also had 17 caused turnovers.
Growney is also a First-Team All-Conference and a WomensLacrosse.com Second-Team All-American selection. She played in all 20 contests in 2009. She won 45 draw controls, caused 9 turnovers, and picked up 15 ground balls. She also scored three goals as she helped Limestone’s defense to an 8.40 goals against average.
Ilott earned First-Team All-Conference honors in 2009. She played in all 20 games for Limestone this season. Ilott recorded 49 points from 40 goals and 9 assists. She won 55 draw controls, picked up 31 ground balls, and led the team with 21 caused turnovers.
The IWLCA honored 64 student-athletes in Division II with a selection on one of the All-Regional teams for 2009. These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 22. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American banquet on June 13 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
