On December 17, several of the Limestone College Cheerleaders visited local elementary schools and read Christmas stories to the students. Team members visited Draytonville Elementary School and read to Mrs. McDowell’s third grade class. Team members also visited Mary Bramlett Elementary School and were guest readers in the school’s Third Annual Winter Storytelling Day Program.
Mrs. Cheri Winkler, Instructional Coach at Mary Bramlett, stated, “Community members, mentors, and role models are invited into the school to read to and with our students. The students look forward to this interaction with people from outside the school. The community members tend to set an example as to why literacy is important in their everyday lives. The students love to ask questions and share stories with their reader when they visit. This is an opportunity for not only the students to grow in their love of literature, but for the community to touch the lives of children that they may never have had the opportunity to meet or share with otherwise.”
The team really enjoyed being able to share stories with local students and look forward to the next visit to area schools.
