ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—The Saints baseball team lost to the University of Alabama-Huntsville 6-5 on Sunday at the Flagler Challenge. Limestone stands at 1-2 overall.
The Saints scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning on back to back doubles from
Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) and
Tim Welsh (Kalamazoo, Mich.). However, the Chargers came back and scored five runs in the top of the second frame. The Saints pulled within one run in the bottom of the eighth inning with run scoring singles from
Michael Hughey (Gaffney, S.C) and
Josh Wood (Gastonia, N.C.) to make it a 6-5 contest, but the Chargers held in the final inning to capture the victory.
The Saints were led at the plate by Lydon who was 4-5 with 3 doubles Tim Welsh who was 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs batted in. Hughey and
Micah Robinson (Deland, Fla.) also had 2 hits apiece for the Saints.
Andrew Thompson (Deland, Fla.) took the loss as he allowed 5 runs in 1.2 innings of work.
Casey Seay(Rock Hill, S.C),
Matt Crisp (Gastonia, N.C.), and
Dani Ashbaugh (New Market, Md.) also pitched for the Saints.
The Chargers were led by Jordan Parker who was 3-4 with a run batted and a run scored. Jerome Dunning was 2-4 with a run batted in for Alabama-Huntsville. Ryan Frevert was the winning pitcher for the Chargers as he went 7 strong innings while recording 4 strikeouts.
The Saints host North Greenville on February 9 at 2 p.m. at Bob Prevatte Field in Gaffney, S.C.
