Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Following one of the greatest seasons in program history, Limestone College women's lacrosse has been picked No. 5 in the Lacrosse Magazine NCAA Division II Preseason Poll. The Saints finished last season ranked No. 2 and reached the NCAA Division II Championship for the first time in program history.

Limestone won its first 17 games and entered the tournament with the No. 2 overall seed before defeating northern rival No. 6 West Chester by a 10-9 score in the national semifinals. Following a 17-4 loss to eventual three-time champion Adelphi, a squad which included double-figure NCAA Division I transfers, the Saints finished the season with an 18-2 overall record, tying the program mark for most wins in a season.

Entering this season, LeMoyne (18-3) holds the No. 1 ranking while Adelphi (20-0), despite transfers of the three best players in the country, is No. 2. C.W. Post (13-4), which did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament last season, and Dowling (15-3), which was eliminated in the first round, come in at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

The Saints return nearly their entire squad from last season with the exception of defensive stalwart Erin Growney (Rochester, N.Y.) and offensive playmaker Casey Wilcox (Liverpool, N.Y.). Among those back are IWLCA Second-Team All-Americans attack Racquel Prager (Seaford, N.Y.), midfielder Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) and goal keeper Rashelle McLellan (East Lyme, Conn.).

Prager finished with a near program-record 60 goals (five short of the all-time mark) and seven assists for 67 points while Treat compiled 35 goals and three assists as a sophomore. McLellan was a rock in goal throughout last season as she went 18-2 with a 7.28 goals against average and led the team with 34 ground balls.

Limestone will begin the 2012 campaign with seven straight home games beginning on February 17 when they host Lees-McRae at Saints Field.
