GAFFNEY, S.C. - Limestone College men's lacrosse standout Shayne Jackson (Bowmanville, Ontario) was recently the No.1 overall selection in the 2012 Major Lacrosse Series Draft as he was selected by the Ajax (Ontario, Canada) Rock.

Jackson closed out his career in the junior ranks in grand style last summer leading the Whitby (Ontario, Canada) Warriors to the 2011 Minto Cup Junior Championship.

Having already been tabbed as the 2012 Preseason Men's NCAA Division II Player of the Year by Lacrosse Magazine, Shayne was recently drafted by Major League Lacrosse's Denver Outlaws in the league's annual collegiate draft.

Selected with the 62nd overall pick, sixth in the eighth round, Jackson was one of only two non-Division I players to be drafted. He joined Adelphi's Joe Vitale who was selected by the expansion Charlotte Hounds in the eighth round at pick 57.

Jackson, a senior attack, enjoyed a record setting 2011 season, his first with the Saints. Becoming the program's first ever Tewarraton Award Final 25 nominee, he led nation in points per game at 4.82, assists per contest at 2.94, 32 goals and a program single season record 50 assists (82 points) while adding 29 ground balls and forcing six turnovers. Earning numerous First-Team All-America honors, including a National Division II Player of the Year accolade, Jackson earned Conference Carolinas Co-Player of the Year honors along with returning teammate and fellow attackman Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia).

The Blue and Gold will open its 2012 season on Sunday, February 12 by hosting Rollins at noon. That match will mark the first of six consecutive contests at “The Rock” to begin the new campaign.
