Limestone Names Dr. Scott Berry FAR, Change Titles for Bloomer and Lamb

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Limestone University has named Dr. Scott Berry the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), and the Athletics Department announced staff title promotions of Dennis Bloomer to Deputy Athletic Director for Compliance and Curt Lamb to Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance.

Dr. Berry, affectionally known as "The Professor" for his work as a play-by-play and color commentary announcer for the Saints Sports Network, will represent Limestone as the FAR with both the South Atlantic Conference and NCAA Division II. As the FAR, he will provide oversight of the academic integrity of the athletics department and will serve as an advocate for student-athlete well-being with the faculty.

A Professor of Physics and the former Director of Network Services, Dr. Berry was instrumental in helping Limestone Athletics install the IT infrastructure needed to produce high-quality broadcasts of home athletic events. He started color commentating with the Saints Sports Network and has since become a favorite with the student-athletes, families, and fans with his play-by-play calls during Limestone events.

"We are very happy that Dr. Berry has taken on the role as Faculty Athletic Representative," said Limestone Provost Dr. Monica Baloga. "During his long tenure at Limestone, Dr. Berry has developed a great relationship with the faculty and the athletics department staff and coaches. Combined with his passion for teaching, I know that the student-athlete's best interests will always come first to him."

In addition to Dr. Berry being named the Faculty Athletic Representative, the Athletics Department also announced two administrative staff title changes. With the recent move to university status, the department adjusted staff titles to reflect administrative experience and years of service to Limestone.

Bloomer, who was previously a senior associate athletic director, had his title changed to Deputy Athletic Director for Compliance. With nearly 40 years of service to the University, including stints as head coach of both the women's basketball and softball teams, his career at Limestone also consisted of serving as the Athletic Director for eight years. Bloomer was also an assistant coach on the men's basketball team.

While serving as the AD, Bloomer headed Limestone's transition from an NAIA affiliation to a full NCAA Division II member in 1998. He guided the department through the membership process when the school joined the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (now Conference Carolinas) and was equally involved in leading the Saints into their new home with the South Atlantic Conference this past summer.

Lamb, who was named the head strength and conditioning coach in 2005, has recently been named Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance. He established the Limestone Strength and Conditioning degree program in 2007 and was the director and primary instructor of the program until 2011. He also has redeveloped the department's core values and mission statement in recent years.

Working with Assistant Athletic Director for Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement and Senior Woman Administrator Hailey Martin, Lamb helps oversee the student-welfare programming with GameChanger and Sharpen Minds. Over the past couple of years, he obtained an NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant for Diversity and Inclusion, supervised the department's community service programming, and has served on the South Atlantic Conference COVID-19 Taskforce.
