Dear Saints,
Thank you for your patience during this time of unprecedented challenge for Limestone University. In the months since our world suddenly halted, our athletics department has been singularly focused on the student-athletes whom we are committed to serving. Like the disappointment we felt when our winter and spring championships abruptly ended, we are equally saddened that our fall seasons had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Limestone fully plans to play traditional fall sports in the spring of 2021, and we anticipate competing for South Atlantic Conference championships in each of those sports. The fall semester will run like the non-championship segment for our fall sports, meaning teams will be able to conduct practices in accordance with NCAA and SAC policies and guidelines.
Despite our disappointment, we do understand and support the decision made by the SAC Presidents Council and NCAA Division II Presidents Council because the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff has always remained our top priority. While this decision means that our fall student-athletes will have wait to compete for a championship until the spring, I am confident that our Saints will continue to excel this semester as students, as athletes, and as leaders in our campus community. In the face of these changes, our University is committed to providing student-athletes with a fall intercollegiate experience that will include practice, strength and conditioning workouts, leadership seminars, and player-coach meetings. These opportunities will begin following the start of the academic year Limestone will continue to engage with the South Atlantic Conference and the NCAA to ensure that spring competition is a safe and viable option for our fall sports teams.
Our rally cry has and always will be "LimestONEnation". In that spirit, we will continue focusing on the educational experiences of our student-athletes and we will work together to develop and grow in mind, body, and spirit. Thank you for your patience and support in our efforts to return to play in a safe and responsible manner. We eagerly look forward to the day when we can again engage in competition.
Go Saints!
