Newberry, SC- Field Hockey took the title of the 2024 South Atlantic Conference champions after beating Mount Olive 2-0 in a double overtime shootout victory 2-1.   The Saints finished their season with a 14-5 record.
STORY OF THE GAME:
First Quarter:

• First quarter both teams went scoreless.

Second Quarter:

• The Saints kept their defensive strategy up making sure not to give up an easy shot to the Trojans.
• Both teams went scoreless.

Second Half:

• Both Teams had a few shots put up through the third quarter.
• Both teams went scoreless throughout the second half.

Double Overtime:

• Limestone kept on attacking collecting a few corners trying to end the game on a goal in overtime.
• Trojans had a few shots, however, the Saints kept on attacking finishing all 6 quarters with eight shots on goal.

Shootout:

• The Trojans took a strong shot into a corner giving them the lead.
• Victoria Gonzalez Lopez tied the game up for Limestone.
• Tereza Koprivova made crucial saves throughout the shootout.
• Felicitas Herrero Martel put the Saints ahead to help secure the victory for Limestone.

Stats of the game:

• Shots: Limestone had more shots overall (13) compared to Mount Olive (10), with both teams having 8 shots on target.
• Saves: Both teams made an equal number of saves, totaling 8 each.
• Penalty Corners: Limestone had significantly more penalty corners (14) compared to Mount Olive (8).
• Fouls: Interestingly, neither team committed any fouls throughout the match.
