Gaffney, SC- Men's basketball took care of the business at home with an 85-74 victory over Southern Wesleyan. It was a great out of conference match up played in Timken Center moving the men's record to (2-1, SAC 0-0).
STORY OF THE GAME:
First Half
- The Saints went back and forth in the first quarter with each team responding on the offensive side of the ball.
- Sirr Hughes was a key player in the first half attacking the lanes and finding the openings.
- Limestone cuise to a comfortable lead going up 28-18 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
- Â SWU fought back closing the gape on the Saints on a short run towards the end of the quarter.
- The men closed out the half with Greg Mckay hitting a 3 putting the team up 47-34.
- Isayah Owen was the lead scorer through the first half with 12 points.
Second Half
- Limestone kept up the momentum with them building on the first half as a driving layup by Hughes put them ahead 58-42.
- Owens extended their lead to 70-52 on a strong finish at the basket.
- SWU fought back with a strong defense as they cut into the lead 78-70.
- However, It was no match for the gap the Saints had built in the game as the final came out to 85-74 in favor of Limestone.
Key Players:
- Isayah Owens led the team with 19 points, along with 5 rebounds and 6 assists.
- Trevon Payton and Sirr Hughes both scored 17 points each, contributing significantly to the team's offense.
- Greg McKay had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Franklin Davis was efficient off the bench, scoring 11 points in just 25 minutes.
