Football Tames the Wolves on the Road 35-14

DJ Black Scores two touchdowns to help take down Newberry

Newberry, SC – Limestone University's football team improved to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the South Atlantic Conference on Saturday, Nov. 2, as the Saints rolled past Newberry 35-14 at Setzler Field.

Limestone played Homecoming spoiler for the Wolves, who fell to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference. Starting quarterback Dustin Noller was back under center after missing last week's set-back to Wingate due to an ankle injury. Noller threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns in his return. All totaled, Limestone had four different players score touchdowns on the afternoon.

Newberry stuck first with 4:37 remaining in the first quarter when Dwayne Wright broke loose on a 16-yard run that capped off a five-play, 52-yard drive. The extra point by Bryce Earley put the Wolves in front 7-0.

With 2:08 remaining in the first quarter, Limestone's DJ Black caught a 40-yard pass from Noller, and the PAT by David Deneen, Jr. tied the score at 7-7. The touchdown by Black finished off a five-play, 53-yard drive.

In the second quarter, with 4:00 remaining, Limestone's Tre Williams rambled in for a two-yard touchdown to complete a nine-play, 49-yard scoring drive. The PAT by Deneen put the Saints in front for good, 14-7.

Limestone's Kevin Lalin rushed for a three-yard touchdown with 42 seconds remaining before halftime. Deneen's extra point stretched the Saints' lead to 21-7. The run was part of a quick four-play drive that covered 80 yards.

Less than two minutes into the third quarter, Limestone struck again as Black hauled in a 55-yard touchdown pass from Noller. Deneen's PAT put the Saints in front 28-7 following the three-play, 69-yard drive.

With 8:38 remaining in the third quarter, Mikey Jones snagged a 36-yard touchdown pass from Noller and the extra point by Deneen extended the Limestone lead to 35-7. The six-play drive covered 55 yards.

Newberry finished off the scoring with 5:31 left in the first quarter when Ja'Corey Martin sprinted in on a 42-yard touchdown run. The extra point by Earley provided the final score.

Up Next: Limestone will return home to host Barton on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 12 noon.
