Gaffney. S.C. – Limestone's men's basketball hosted Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference game where the Saints came out ahead with a final score of (84-64). The Saints will head into the weekend with a record of (4-6, 1-5 SAC) as Mars Hill moves to a record of (4-4,2-4 SAC).
Key Players:
- Greg McKay (Nassau, Bahamas) led the team with 21 points and 9 rebounds.
- Railer Vargas (Venezuela)Â also scored 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
- Sirr Hughes (Cleveland Heights, Ohio)Â contributed 17 points and 3 rebounds.
- Emmanuel Okogie (Atlanta, Ga.)Â was perfect from the field, scoring 11 points in 19 minutes.
STORY OF THE GAME:
First Half:
- Limestone started the first half strong making the first seven points of the game going up 7-0.
- Mars Hill battled back throughout the first half to bring the score 13-9.
- Hughes was able to put two on the board after hitting his layup to point the Saints back up by five as the score was now 18-13.
- Mars Hill closed the gap to four with a free throw.
- Limestone went up again by nine after a few baskets and a free throw by McKay.
- The Saints went up by 15 going into the half as McKay hit another fastbreak layup bringing the half score to 38-23.
Second Half:
- The Lions looked to cut into the lead as Dinari Boykin made a layup to bring the lead to nine.
- McKay kept the game rolling in the second half by hitting two shots in the paint.
- Hughes connected on another three for the Saints, putting them up 45-33.
- Varges connected on a hook shot growing the lead for Limestone.
- Okogie hit a layup to bring the lead up to 22 as the score was now 76-54.
- Kory Davis hit a free throw for Mars Hill working at the Saints lead.
- Saints went on to win the game with the final score coming out to 84-64 with Jamarie Brown (Florence, S.C.) hitting the last shot for the Saints.
