Men's Basketball Defeats the Wasps at Home 91-72

Gaffney, S.C. – Limestone men's basketball takes down the Wasps at home in a South Atlantic Conference basketball game in Timken Center with an impressive final score of (91-72). The Saints improve to a record of (7-8,4-7 SAC), as the Emory & Henry moves to a record of (4-11,2-9 SAC).
Key Players:
  • Sirr Hughes (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) led the team with 23 points, shooting 8-12 from the field and 4-6 from three-point range.
  • Trevon Payton (Lilburn, Ga.) also had a great game, scoring 22 points on 9-15 shooting.
  • Greg McKay (Nassau, Bahamas) was a force on the boards, grabbing 15 rebounds to go along with his 11 points.
STORY OF THE GAME:
First Half:
  • Emory & Henry took an early five-point lead against Limestone connecting on a jumper and three-pointer.
  • Limestone fought back immediately, closing the lead with a made layup by Hughes to bring the core 7-9.
  • The Saints took the lead with less than 14 minutes to go as McKay connected on a layup putting his team ahead 15-14.
  • Vargas hit two free throws to maintain the lead 17-16.
  • Hughes hit two free throws to give his team an eight-point score with less than seven.
  • Payton made a layup in the paint and through traffic and the Saints were cruising with their lead.
  • Okogie hit a tip layup to close the half and keep his team ahead 40-30.
Second Half:
  • McKay opened the second half with a fast-break layup of turnover growing team lead up to 12.
  • The Saints were connecting in the second half as they were able to build their lead up to 22 with a huge dunk coming from Payton bringing the score 59-37.
  • Emory & Henry did not go down quietly as Korbin Dixon finished at the basket.
  • Franklin Davis (Landrum, S.C) helped the Saints grow their lead to 29, the largest of the night with a three from the corner bringing the score 70-41.
  • Owens contributed a three of his own with less than ten to go in the game.
  • The Wasps tried to keep themselves in the game however the offensive show the Saints were able to put on closed out the game with the final coming out to 91-72.
