Belmont, N.C.-In a hard-fought doubleheader, Limestone showcased their tenacity and skill, even though they narrowly missed out on victories in both games against Belmont Abbey. The first game ended with a close 3-2 score, and the second game was a nail-biter, concluding at 6-5. Despite the outcomes, Limestone's players demonstrated impressive performances and a fighting spirit that kept the games exciting until the very end.
Highlights of the doubleheader:
Game One:
- Limestone took an early lead in the 3rd inning. E. Wrenn grounded out to shortstop, allowing Taylor Jenkins to advance to third and Faith Callaway to score. Shortly after, O. Veidt singled down the left field line, bringing Jenkins home and making the score 2-0.
- Belmont Abbey responded in the bottom of the 3rd inning with an RBI single by L. Garnett-B, cutting Limestone's lead to 2-1.
- The decisive moment came in the 6th inning when K. Teasley hit a two-run homer, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of Belmont Abbey.
- L. Hartsell secured the win for Belmont Abbey, improving to a 3-0 record, while Breanna Clayton took the loss for Limestone.
Game Two:
- Limestone again took the lead in the 5th inning with three runs. T. Jenkins singled to third base, advanced to second on a throwing error, and brought in two unearned runs. Olivia Veidt reached first on a fielding error, allowing another unearned run to score, making it 3-0.
- Belmont Abbey rallied in the bottom of the 5th with four runs, including a two-RBI single by M. Meadors, taking a 4-3 lead.
- Limestone tied the game in the 7th inning with an RBI single by Emma Wrenn and took the lead in the 8th with an RBI single by Emma King, making it 5-4.
- However, Belmont Abbey pulled out the win in the bottom of the 8th with a two-run homer by A. Elkins, ending the game at 6-5.
