Limestone Softball Splits Doubleheader with Lander in Home Opener

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Limestone University softball team split a doubleheader against Lander University on February 25, 2025, at Jimmy Martin Field. The Saints secured a thrilling 3-2 victory in the first game but fell 8-0 in the second game.

Game 1: Limestone 3, Lander 2

In the first game, Lander took an early lead with an RBI single by E. Allen in the first inning and added another run in the fifth inning. However, Limestone rallied in the bottom of the fifth. Faith Callaway singled to center field, driving in Emma King and advancing Abbigail Heywood to second. Taylor Jenkins then delivered a clutch single, advancing to third and bringing both Callaway and Heywood home, giving the Saints a 3-2 lead. Karly Gentry earned the win for Limestone, while K. Akins took the loss for Lander.

Game 2: Lander 8, Limestone 0

In the second game, Lander's offense was on the move from the start. L. Moore homered in the first inning, and the Bearcats continued to build their lead with runs in the second, third, and fourth innings. N. Jones and S. Jones contributed with key hits, while R. Camuglia and S. Bumgarner added RBIs. Limestone struggled to generate offense, managing only two hits in the game. H. Sampson earned the win for Lander, with M. Geddings securing the save, while Karly Gentry took the loss for Limestone.

The doubleheader saw a combined attendance of 135 spectators who witnessed the competitive play. Limestone's record now stands at 5-5, while Lander improves to 9-4. The Saints will look to bounce back in their upcoming games.
