Gaffney, SC – In an impressive display of skill, Francis Marion University took both games from Limestone University in a out of conference softball doubleheader held at Jimmy Martin Field on February 27, 2025.
Game One: Francis Marion 14, Limestone 3
The first game, which started at 12:00 PM and lasted 1 hour and 57 minutes, saw an attendance of 198 spectators. Francis Marion took an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Highlights included a two-run homer by Strickland and a two-RBI single by R. Gray. Limestone responded in the bottom of the first with T. Jenkins scoring on a wild pitch.
In the second inning, Gale hit a solo home run for Francis Marion, extending their lead to 8-1. Limestone's Faith Callaway hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second, bringing the score to 8-3. Francis Marion continued to add to their lead with a sacrifice fly by K. Miller in the third inning and a solo home run by Civoniceva in the fourth. Strickland's three-RBI double and K. Miller's RBI single in the fourth inning sealed the game for Francis Marion.
Limestone's pitcher, Stonesifer, showed resilience despite the challenging game, and the team managed to score three runs. The final score was 14-3 in favor of Francis Marion.
Game Two: Francis Marion 9, Limestone 3
The second game started at 2:00 PM and lasted 2 hours and 25 minutes, with an attendance of 167 spectators. Limestone took an early lead with a run in the first inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Ragan Bristol that brought Tayler Jenkins home. Francis Marion's offense came alive in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. R. Gray reached first on an error, allowing three unearned runs to score, followed by a two-RBI single by White and a two-RBI double by Strickland.
Limestone added a run in the fourth inning with an RBI double by F. Callaway, making the score 7-2. In the sixth inning, White stole third and scored for Francis Marion, and in the seventh, Civoniceva hit an RBI double, extending their lead to 9-2. Limestone's R. Bristol added another RBI in the seventh inning, bringing the final score to 9-3.
Francis Marion's pitcher, A. Williams, earned the win, improving her record to 3-0, while Limestone's pitcher, Clayton, took the loss, bringing her record to 1-3. Despite the final scores, Limestone's players demonstrated their skill and tenacity throughout both games.
