Softball Drops Both Games in Doubleheader Against Tusculum

Gaffney, S.C. – The Limestone University Softball team faced a tough challenge at home, hosting Tusculum in a doubleheader on March 12, 2025. Despite strong efforts, the Saints fell in both games, struggling to keep up with Tusculum's offensive firepower.

Game 1 – Tusculum 4, Limestone 3

Limestone fought hard in the opening game but couldn't hold off a late rally by Tusculum, falling 4-3 in a tightly contested battle.

The game remained scoreless through the first five innings as Chelsey Stonesifer delivered an impressive outing in the circle, limiting Tusculum's bats.

Limestone broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fifth when Emma King smacked a two-run triple, giving the Saints a 2-0 lead. Skylar Page followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0 heading into the sixth inning.

Tusculum responded in the top of the sixth, plating one run to cut the deficit to 3-1. Then, in the top of the seventh, the Pioneers rallied for three runs, including a clutch two-run double, securing a 4-3 comeback victory.

Despite collecting five hits, Limestone left key runners stranded late in the game.

Stonesifer was effective for most of the game, but Tusculum capitalized on key opportunities in the seventh inning to steal the win.

Game 2 – Tusculum 7, Limestone 3

Tusculum jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, and despite some late efforts by the Saints, Limestone was unable to recover, falling 7-3 in Game 2.

The Saints answered in the second inning when Emma Wrenn doubled, setting up Allie Boone, who delivered an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.

Tusculum added two more runs in the fourth inning and one in the sixth to extend their advantage to 7-1. Limestone made an attempt to rally in the bottom of the sixth when F. Callaway hit a two-run double, but the comeback effort fell short.

Limestone struggled against Tusculum's pitching, managing just six hits while striking out five times.

Limestone's pitching staff battled throughout the game, but early runs by Tusculum proved too much to overcome.

Up Next for Limestone

The Saints will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue conference play. They will travel to Wingate on Saturday, March 15th for a doubleheader slated for 1 PM and 3PM.
