Gaffney, S.C. – The Limestone University Softball team faced a challenging doubleheader on the road against Wingate on March 15, 2025. Despite a strong start in the first game, the Saints split the series, winning the opener but falling in the second game.
Game 1 – Limestone 5, Wingate 3
Limestone showed resilience in the first game, securing a 5-3 victory with a late-game surge. The game remained tight through the early innings, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm.
Wingate took the lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run by S. Brooks. Limestone responded in the fifth inning when Olivia Veidt hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. Wingate regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run homer by Hali Scott, making it 3-1.
The Saints mounted a comeback in the seventh inning. Olivia Veidt hit her second home run of the game, a two-run shot, to tie the game at 3-3. Tayler Jenkins then doubled to drive in the go-ahead run, and Madilyn Gerovac followed with an RBI double to secure the 5-3 win.
Chelsey Stonesifer pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits and striking out two batters, earning her fourth win of the season.
Game 2 – Wingate 9, Limestone 1
In the second game, Wingate's offense proved too powerful for Limestone, resulting in a 9-1 loss for the Saints. Wingate jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first two innings.
Limestone's only run came in the fifth inning when Faith Callaway singled to drive in Emma Wrenn. However, Wingate continued to add to their lead, scoring two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning.
Karly Gentry started for Limestone but struggled, allowing four runs in just 1.2 innings. Wingate's Hali Scott pitched five strong innings, giving up only one run and striking out five.
