Softball Splits road Doubleheader with Newberry

Newberry, S.C. – The Limestone University Softball team traveled to Newberry for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on March 22, 2025. The Saints rallied late to capture a win in Game 1 but came up short in Game 2, resulting in a split with the Wolves.

Game 1 – Limestone 6, Newberry 2

Limestone used a pair of late-inning surges to take Game 1 over Newberry with a 6-2 victory.

The Saints struck early in the first inning as Emma King scored the game's opening run. After five quiet innings, Limestone's bats came alive in the sixth. Allie Heywood ripped a clutch two-out double to left-center, scoring two runs and giving the Saints a 3-2 lead.

In the seventh, Olivia Veidt delivered the big blow—a towering two-run home run—extending the lead to 6-2 and sealing the win for Limestone.

The Saints totaled eight hits, including three extra-base hits, and reached base 17 times thanks to six walks and three hit batters.

Stonesifer pitched a complete game, keeping the Wolves' offense in check with a mix of off-speed pitches and strong defense behind her.

Game 2 – Newberry 9, Limestone 6

In Game 2, Limestone's offense delivered 15 hits, but the Saints couldn't overcome a big middle-inning surge by Newberry, falling 9-6.

The Saints exploded for five runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run double from S. Page, and RBI hits from Emma King and Olivia Veidt. Limestone added another run in the sixth but struggled to contain the Wolves' offense, which scored three in the third, two in the fourth, and four in the sixth.

Despite a strong offensive showing, Limestone left 10 runners on base, missing multiple opportunities to break the game open.

Newberry's offense capitalized on every opportunity, including two home runs off Turgeon in the sixth to pull away late.
