JEFFERSON CITY, TN – The Limestone University Softball team faced a challenging doubleheader on the road against Carson-Newman on March 26, 2025. Despite a strong start in the first game, the Saints split the series, winning the opener but falling in the second game.
Game 1 – Limestone 8, Carson-Newman 5
Limestone showed resilience in the first game, securing an 8-5 victory with a late-game surge. The game remained tight through the early innings, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm.
Carson-Newman took the lead in the first inning with a two-run home run by M. Bailey. Limestone responded in the second inning when Olivia Veidt hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2. Limestone took the lead in the fifth inning when F. Callaway scored on a wild pitch, making it 3-2.
The Saints extended their lead in the sixth inning with a two-run home run by F. Callaway, followed by an RBI single from E. King, making it 6-2. Carson-Newman narrowed the gap with a two-run home run by M. Robbins in the bottom of the sixth, but Limestone's Callaway tripled in the seventh inning, driving in two more runs. Carson-Newman's K. Warder hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome Limestone's lead.
Chelsey Stonesifer pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out three batters, earning her seventh win of the season.
Game 2 – Carson-Newman 10, Limestone 2
In the second game, Carson-Newman's offense proved too powerful for Limestone, resulting in a 10-2 loss for the Saints. Carson-Newman jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Limestone managed to score two runs, one in the fourth inning and another in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to catch up. Carson-Newman added four more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth, securing a decisive 10-2 victory.
Lorelei Spradlin earned the win for Carson-Newman, pitching a complete game and allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three. Karly Gentry started for Limestone but struggled, allowing five runs in just 0.2 innings.
