Gaffney, S.C. – The Limestone University Softball team took on Catawba at Jimmy Martin Field for a doubleheader against Catawba on March 4, 2025. The Saints secured a hard-fought victory in Game 1 but struggled defensively in Game 2.
Game 1 – Limestone 3, Catawba 2
Limestone edged out Catawba
3-2 in a tightly contested Game 1, thanks to strong pitching and timely hitting.
The Saints got on the board first in the second inning when
Abbigail Heywood delivered a clutch RBI double to bring home
Skylar Page, giving Limestone an early 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless third, Limestone added to its advantage in the fourth when
Heywood struck again, this time with an RBI single to score
Page, making it 2-0.
Catawba responded in the fifth inning with two runs of their own, tying the game. However,
Tayler Jenkins quickly put Limestone back on top in the bottom half, blasting a
solo home run, which proved to be the game-winning hit.
Pitcher
Breanna Clayton was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete game. She allowed
just two earned runs on five hits, striking out
five batters while walking
four.
Limestone played flawless defense, committing
zero errors and securing key outs to seal the victory.
Game 2 – Catawba 10, Limestone 4
The Saints struggled defensively in Game 2, falling
10-4 after a rough third and seventh inning allowed Catawba to take control.
After two scoreless innings, Catawba struck big in the third, plating
five runs on a home run and a pair of defensive miscues. Catawba added two more in the fourth, extending their lead to
7-0.
Limestone attempted a late rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Skylar Page homered to put the Saints on the board, and
Allie Boone reached on an error, allowing two additional runs to score. However, the comeback fell short as Catawba held on for the win.
The Saints had
eight hits in the game but were hurt by
five defensive errors, which allowed Catawba to capitalize on extra opportunities.
Pitcher
Chelsey Stonesifer started for Limestone but struggled, allowing
two earned runs on four hits over
two innings.
Karly Gentry, Carmen Turgeon, and Breanna Clayton all saw relief appearances, but Catawba's offense continued to apply pressure.

The Saints will look to bounce back as they travel to UVA Wise on Saturday, March 8 for a Doubleheader with the games scheduled to start at 12 Pm and 2 PM.
