WISE, VA – The Limestone University softball (7-11, 2-2 SAC) faced off against UVA Wise (14-9, 1-1 SAC) in a doubleheader on March 8, 2025, at Gatton Field. The Saints secured a hard-fought victory in Game 1 but fell short in an extra-innings thriller in Game 2.

Game 1 – Limestone 6, UVA Wise 4

Limestone edged out UVA Wise 6-4 in a tightly contested Game 1, thanks to strong pitching and timely hitting. The Saints got on the board first in the opening inning when Tayler Jenkins advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Madilyn Gerovac and scored on a groundout, unearned. UVA Wise quickly responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Saints took control in the third inning, scoring three unearned runs. Tayler Jenkins scored on a single by Ragan Bristol, and both Madilyn Gerovac and Emma King scored on a single by Skylar Page. Limestone added two more runs in the fourth inning, with Emma Wrenn scoring on a groundout by Tayler Jenkins and Faith Callaway scoring on a single by Madilyn Gerovac.

UVA Wise attempted a comeback, scoring two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, but Limestone's defense held strong. Pitcher Breanna Clayton (3-4) earned the win, allowing two earned runs on one hit over three innings, while Carmen Turgeon secured her first save of the season with two scoreless innings.

Game 2 – UVA Wise 8, Limestone 7 (10 innings)

The second game saw UVA Wise rally to win 8-7 in ten innings. Limestone took an early lead in the third inning when Abbigail Heywood scored on a throwing error by the pitcher, unearned. The Saints added another run in the fourth inning when Ragan Bristol scored on a fielding error by the second baseman, unearned.

Limestone extended their lead in the sixth inning with two runs, as Skylar Page scored on a single by Emma Wrenn, and Wrenn scored on a double by Heywood. However, UVA Wise tied the game in the seventh inning with two unearned runs.

The game went into extra innings, with Limestone taking the lead in the eighth and ninth innings, but UVA Wise matched them each time. In the tenth inning, Tayler Jenkins scored on a sacrifice fly by Emma King to give Limestone a 7-6 lead, but UVA Wise's Lindsey Polan hit a walk-off home run, driving in two runs to secure the victory.

Pitcher Carmen Turgeon (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs (one earned) on five hits over three innings. Olivia Shockley (2-1) earned the win for UVA Wise, pitching 4.1 scoreless innings in relief.
