Gaffney, S.C. – The Limestone University Softball team hosted Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 12. After a late rally fell short in Game 1, the Saints responded with an offensive explosion in Game 2 to split the series.
Game 1 – Lincoln Memorial 4, Limestone 2
Limestone held a late lead, but Lincoln Memorial scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 4-2 win in the opener.
The Saints broke a scoreless tie in the fifth when Grace Walker scored on a groundout by A. Heywood. Emma King added a sixth-inning run after advancing to third on a single and scoring on a sacrifice fly from S. Page to make it 2-1.
However, the Railsplitters capitalized in the top of the seventh with a bases-clearing double by K. Griffin, pulling ahead for good.
Limestone recorded eight hits and did not commit an error.
Breanna Clayton was effective through six innings, but LMU's late surge proved decisive.
Game 2 – Limestone 12, Lincoln Memorial 2 (5 Innings)
The Saints bounced back in a big way, scoring 12 runs on 11 hits, including three home runs, to dominate Lincoln Memorial in a five-inning mercy-rule win.
Limestone wasted no time, erupting for four runs in the first, all coming on a grand slam by Ragan Bristol. The Saints added a run in the second and put the game out of reach with a seven-run third inning, capped by a grand slam from A. Heywood.
Limestone's bats were red-hot, scoring in each of the first three innings and capitalizing on two LMU errors.
Stonesifer went the distance, keeping LMU in check to earn her eighth win of the season. Stonesifer only gave up two runs in her outing.
