Baseball Splits the Day against Wingate, Dropping game two and winning game three

Wingate, N.C. – The Limestone University baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader on the road against South Atlantic Conference rival Wingate University. After falling in the opening game, the Saints bounced back with a strong showing in Game 2, closing out the weekend series with a much-needed win.

Game 1: Wingate 9, Limestone 2

Limestone struck first with a run in the top of the first inning off an RBI single by Zach Greenberg, and tacked on another in the third with a double from Greenberg that scored Peter Adams. However, Wingate responded with a four-run third inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Breon Ishmael, and added runs in the fourth, fifth, and eighth innings to pull away with a 9-2 victory.

Greenbe led the Saints offensively, going 3-for-3 with both of Limestone's RBIs. Kemper Nix took the loss after allowing five runs over three innings of work, while Wingate's Collin McDougall went the distance, striking out seven and walking just one over nine innings.

Game 2: Limestone 7, Wingate 5

The Saints answered back in the nightcap with a complete team performance. Limestone built a 3-0 lead in the third inning, fueled by an RBI double from Greenberg and a two-run homer by Davis Turner. Turner continued his hot streak in the fourth, blasting another home run—this one a grand slam—that broke the game open and gave Limestone a 7-0 advantage.

Wingate fought back with four runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, but the Saints bullpen held firm. Marty Neal earned the win in relief, while Tucker McSwain notched the save with two scoreless innings to close it out.

Turner finished the game 2-for-4 with six RBIs, while Greenberg and Corey Hodier each contributed multi-hit performances as Limestone secured the doubleheader split and moved to 22-23 overall, 14-13 in SAC play.
