Limestone Clinches SAC Playoff Spot for the First Time in Over a Decade with Doubleheader Sweep Against Virginia-Wise

Gaffney, S.C. – Limestone University baseball team swept a Saturday doubleheader at home against South Atlantic Conference rival Virginia-Wise. The Saints dominated both games, showcasing strong pitching and timely hitting to secure two crucial wins and clinch a spot in the SAC playoffs for the first time in over ten years.

Game 1: Limestone 6, Virginia-Wise 2

Limestone took an early lead in the third inning with an RBI single by Tyler Hughesman, scoring Ben Partridge. Virginia-Wise tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single from J. Ruehling, but Limestone responded with a three-run fourth inning. Corey Hodierne's two-RBI single and Ben Partridge's sacrifice fly gave the Saints a 4-1 lead. Virginia-Wise added a run in the seventh, but Limestone extended their lead with runs in the seventh and eighth innings, securing a 6-2 victory.

Kemper Nix earned the win, pitching 6.1 innings with six strikeouts, while Tucker McSwain closed the game with a scoreless inning. Hodierne led the Saints offensively, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Game 2: Limestone 8, Virginia-Wise 0

In the second game, Limestone continued their strong performance. Davis Turner doubled down the right field line in the first inning, driving in Ben Partridge for the first run. The Saints broke the game open in the fourth inning with five runs, highlighted by Winston Parke's three-RBI double. Jermie Greene added a solo home run in the fifth, and Sion Barnette's RBI single in the sixth capped off the scoring.

Jake Contino earned the win, pitching 5 innings with four strikeouts and allowing no runs. Cale Wagoner and Marty Neal combined to keep Virginia-Wise scoreless for the rest of the game.

Playoff Bound: With these victories, Limestone secured a spot in the SAC playoffs for the first time in over a decade
