Baseball Triumphs Over Anderson in a Thrilling Game

Anderson, S.C. - On April 9, 2025, Limestone University (21-19) faced Anderson University (21-17) in an exhilarating non-conference game at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The Saints clinched a late victory after Anderson had led for most of the game.

The match began with both teams displaying strong defensive skills, keeping the score at 0-0 through the first two innings. Anderson broke the deadlock in the third inning when Shane Thomas walked with the bases loaded, allowing Brooks Mauro to score, giving Anderson a 1-0 lead. This early advantage set the stage for a tense and competitive game.

Limestone's offense remained quiet until the seventh inning, when they erupted with three runs. Peter Adams initiated the rally with an RBI single, driving in Tyler Hughesman. Winston Parke followed with a single to center field, advancing to second on the throw and scoring Adams. Corey Hodierne capped off the inning with a single to left center, bringing Parke home and putting Limestone ahead 3-1.

In the ninth inning, Limestone added an insurance run when Parke singled to shortstop, allowing Adams to score an unearned run, sealing the victory at 4-1.

Limestone's pitching staff delivered an outstanding performance, with Conner Elliott earning the win (1-1) and Tucker McSwain securing his second save of the season. Charlie Duffy, Jackson Rivers, Colby Humphries, and Wyatt Stone also contributed to the strong defensive effort, collectively allowing only one run and five hits.

A highlight of the game was Limestone breaking the school record with three stolen bases, bringing their season total to 97. This remarkable achievement added to the excitement of the match and demonstrated the team's aggressive base-running strategy.

Anderson's Jacob Crabb took the loss (0-1), despite a solid start from Cole Davis, who pitched five scoreless innings. However, Limestone's relentless offense in the later innings proved too much for Anderson to overcome.

Notable performances included Winston Parke's two RBIs and three hits, and Peter Adams' two runs and two hits. Limestone's defense was flawless, committing no errors, while Anderson struggled with three errors throughout the game.

Limestone's victory over Anderson showcased their resilience and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, setting the stage for their upcoming South Atlantic Conference series against Mars Hill.
