MATTHEWS, N.C. – The Limestone University women's lacrosse team is set to compete for the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday, May 3, against top-seeded Wingate University at Matthews Sportsplex.
The Teams:
Limestone University (12-5, 9-2 SAC) vs. Wingate University (17-1, 11-0 SAC)
Where and When:
Matthews Sportsplex on Saturday, May 3, at 11:00 AM
Brief History:
Limestone and Wingate have built a competitive rivalry over recent seasons. The Bulldogs won the regular-season matchup between the two teams, narrowly defeating the Saints. However, Limestone has a championship pedigree and will look to avenge that loss on the conference's biggest stage. This will mark their second meeting of the season and the second time, in two years, they face off in a SAC title game.
The Saints:
Limestone enters the championship game with strong momentum after back-to-back dominant performances, including a shutout win over Mars Hill and a dominant semifinal victory against Newberry. Junior midfielder Reese Hjertaas continues to lead the Saints' offense with dynamic play between the arcs, while Joscelin and Kiera Martin provide balanced scoring threats and critical assists. Defensively, Emma McCoy remains one of the top goalkeepers in the SAC, ranking in the top five for save percentage (44.7%), total goals allowed (130), and goals-against average (8.67). The Saints will rely on their experience and resilience as they chase back-to-back SAC titles.
The Bulldogs:
Wingate, the top seed and SAC regular-season champions, enter Saturday's championship clash with a near-perfect 17-1 record. The Bulldogs have showcased one of the most balanced attacks in the league, led by Kaleigh Wilgeroth and Megan Millard, who rank among the conference leaders in goals and points. Defensively, goalkeeper Riley Boone anchors the unit with 121 saves this season and a goals-against average of 7.95. Wingate's only loss came in non-conference play, and they are riding an 11-game win streak into the championship matchup.
