Limestone College Athletics Core Values

Mission Statement of Limestone University Athletics Department

The purpose of the Limestone University Athletics Department is to support the overall mission, goals and objectives of the University by complementing the pursuit of academic excellence, cultural diversity and gender equity with championship sports programs.

The Department is dedicated to providing the teaching and leadership that will enable our students to maximize both their individual and team's athletic potential within the context of a liberal arts education, while also representing Limestone with character and integrity.

Limestone University believes that successful intercollegiate athletics teams serve to build a sense of spirit and community on campus and are a source of institutional pride for their peers as well as the institutional alumni both close to home and abroad.

Limestone University is committed to the guiding principles of the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas  including: presidential control of athletics, the cultivation of the ideal of the scholar-athlete and participation in a wide variety of sports. Commitment to the last principle assures that the college identifies with and supports, in a very evident way, gender equity.

The Athletics Department is also committed to the compliance of all university policies and regulations involved in Division II membership in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. As a member of the NCAA, Limestone also advocates student-athlete welfare, diversity, gender equity, sportsmanship and ethical conduct in its athletic program.

Core Values of Limestone College Athletics Department

Our purpose statement carries with it the responsibility, traditions and forward thinking of Limestone University exemplified by all who are associated with the Athletics Department. From the administration, coaches, staff, and its current and former students, we must recognize what is right and wrong and be leaders whose words and actions are above approach. The morals behind the program can be defined within the four core values:

Excellence - Set the bar high

Excellence stems from a great sense of pride in who we are and what we believe in as an athletics department. It comes from optimism and faith, as well as an attitude to strive to be the best that we can be in every aspect of our day athletically, academically and personally. It is this mindset that propels Saints to take on the impossible, exceed the standard and never rest on our laurels.

Integrity - Character is destiny

We strive to preserve the moral and ethical code of Limestone University and the Athletics Department. As Saints we will not lie, cheat or steal; nor will we tolerate those that do. As professionals and student-athletes we must do our work to the best of our abilities and always strive to go above and beyond the minimum standard. We must commit to excellence in all aspects of our professional and personal responsibilities so at the end of the day we can look back and know in our hearts that we could not have given nor done more.

We must strive to take initiative in figuring out what needs to be done before being told what to do. As coaches and administrators we much take full responsibility for our actions and those that report to us (student-athletes, assistant coaches, athletic staff, ect.).

Leadership - Follow me

The spirit of leadership should be instilled in every student-athlete, whether they go on to lead in the boardroom or in the backyard. As representatives of the Athletics Department these Saints will have the values, confidence, experience and courage to bring change to their world.

As administrators, coaches, staff and student-athletes we will strive to put the welfare of the university, department, and team before our own. Selfless service leads to organized teamwork and encompasses discipline as well as self-control. As administrators, coaches and staff we strive to guide and demonstrate to our athletes and others how they should conduct themselves in order to attain and maintain success in all areas of their personal and professional lives. This means doing what is right for your team, the department and the university - putting these responsibilities above your own interests. For our teams and department to work, individuals must give up self-interests for the good of the whole.

Community - LimestONENATION

Community excellence is achieved when all members of the department work together to successfully reach a common goal. As coaches, administrators and student-athletes we will demonstrate mutual respect, which means that a person will never be judged on the basis of his/her racial, ethnic, economic or gender-based category. We will show respect toward all people without regard to race, religion, or gender. We will treat each individual with human dignity and be committed to positive change and constant improvement within the department. Our day-to-day duty will be to work together to improve the quality of the department, university, our student-athletes as well as ourselves.
