Brandon Skweres enters his 10th season as the head women’s volleyball coach at Limestone, and his 12th season overall with the Saints. Prior to his time in Gaffney, he spent 10 years sharpening his coaching experience at the college, high school, and club levels, including seven years coaching premier youth programs in his native Illinois.
Skweres has posted a 111-112 (.498) overall record in nine seasons as head coach at Limestone to go with an impressive 82-57 (.590) conference mark during his tenure in the Blue and Gold. He recorded his 100th career win with a 3-0 sweep against UVA Wise to close out an unusual spring 2021 regular season.
After helping Limestone transitioned into the South Atlantic Conference during a pandemic-shortened spring campaign, Skweres guided the Saints through their first “normal” year in the SAC during 2021. The Saints would finish 11-12 overall and 8-10 in conference play to just miss the championship tournament.
Under his guidance, Josie Curran was named the 2021 SAC Freshman of the Year – only the second player in team history to be named freshman of the year – and a AVCA All-Southeast Region selection. Senior Vanessa Blas was named All-SAC, the third straight all-conference recognition of her career, while senior Bailey Carpenter passed 1,000 career digs and was SAC Defensive Player of the Week last year.
After his collegiate playing career, Skweres served as a volunteer assistant coach with the College of DuPage volleyball program before heading up the Hinsdale South High School boys volleyball program.
While at Hinsdale, he led the program to a school record 22-12 campaign and posted a mark of 42-23 in two seasons before moving on to the club ranks with D1 Volleyball Club and Sports Performance Volleyball Club. During his time with the latter, he coached both men and women and trained and coached a number of athletes that went on to play at the Division I level.
Additionally, he has worked volleyball camps across the United States and in Canada. Skweres is certified in Increased Mastery and Professional Application of Coaching Theory (IMPACT), holds a Level 1 certification in the Coaching Accreditation Program through USA Volleyball and has been an evaluator with girls USA High Performance Volleyball pipeline.
In 2003, he graduated from Lewis with a Bachelor of Science in History and a minor in Political Science. He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Education from National Louis University.
Brandon is married to the former Rachel Malmborg, who is the all-time Division I kills leader at Birmingham Southern College. The couple currently resides in Boiling Springs S.C.
