Josh Nelson, who has been an assistant athletic trainer with the Saints over the past 10 years, begins his first year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Health and Head Athletic Trainer. He takes charge of one of the largest training staffs in the South Atlantic Conference and the Southeast Region, and with his promotion to assistant athletic director, he will also serve on the Limestone Athletics administrative team.
 
An Ostego, Michigan native, Nelson joined the Limestone athletic training staff in August 2010 and has worked with several teams during his tenure in the Blue and Gold. He has most recently worked with football, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s wrestling, baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis. He has been responsible for coordinating with team physicians, coaches, and strength and conditioning staff regarding medical status and treatment of student-athletes.
 
He has assisted the Limestone training staff in spearheading partnerships with local and national health organizations over the last 10 years to improve and expand treatment options for student-athletes, including the groundbreaking Game Changer program with the National Center for Performance Health.
 
Prior to his time at Limestone, Nelson was a graduate assistant at West Virginia University and the head athletic trainer at Waynesburg Central High School. Before beginning his graduate studies in Morgantown, W.Va., he completed a summer internship with the NFL’s New York Giants. Additionally, Nelson has worked at both the Coach K Duke Basketball Camp and the Tom Izzo Basketball Camp.
 
Nelson graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Michigan State University in 2008 and a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia University in 2010.
