Marcia Williams joins the Saints track and field staff for her first season in 2020-2021.
Williams joins the Saints boasting nearly 20 years of coaching experience. Â She most recently served as the Director of Intramurals at Spartanburg Methodist College while also serving as the head coach for the Upstate Bearcats Track and Field team, a homeschool track and field team working out of the Upward Star Center, in their inaugural season.
Prior to that she spent seven years as the President of Coach Marcia Consulting, Inc. This business served as a one stop shop for managing all aspects of youth development. She developed and implemented youth camps and clinics while coaching, training and motivating people of all ages. She also collaborated with local sports facilities and staff while helping develop and implement mentoring programs.
The highlight of her resume however was serving as the Head Coach of the Women's Track and Field team at Clemson University from 2000-2008, serving as the first black head coach in any sport at the University. While with the Tigers, she led her teams to three top-3 finishes at the ACC Championships as well as a third-place finish at the 2000-2001 NCAA Indoor Championships. Her teams have accounted for the nearly a quarter of the top-25 finishes at the NCAA Championships over the programs nearly 40-year history.
Prior to Clemson she spent a year as the head coach of the Stephen F. Austin State University track and field teams. She got her start in coaching at Yale University where she served as the Assistant Men's and Women's Track and Field coach from 1995-1999.
A two-time graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and a Master of Science in Industrial Management, she was a NCAA Division I Indoor National Qualifier in the Long Jump and Triple Jump in 1991 while earning All-American honors in the Long Jump that season. She holds USA Track and Field Level II Certification in Sprints, Hurdles, Relays and Jumps while holding Instructor level credentials in Sprints and Relays.
